Our environmental ambition

House Medical’s ambition is to achieve net-zero carbon emissions by 2030 and to reduce its environmental footprint over time. This is a target, rather than a claim that our operations or products are already carbon neutral.

Meaningful progress depends on understanding the sources of emissions, making reductions and being clear about the scope and evidence behind any environmental claim. We do not treat the use of digital services alone as proof of a low environmental impact.

Lower-impact working

We aim to limit avoidable energy use, material consumption and waste in our day-to-day work. Digital-first working can reduce printing and some journeys, while still carrying its own energy and equipment costs.

• Use electronic documents where they are practical and accessible.
• Switch off or reduce unnecessary equipment use.
• Keep useful equipment in service where it remains secure and suitable.
• Reuse, repair or responsibly recycle equipment and materials where possible.

Thoughtful use of technology

Software choices have resource implications. Our priorities include avoiding unnecessary processing, limiting redundant data and choosing an appropriate level of technical complexity for the task.

For digital products, efficient interfaces and proportionate use of infrastructure are useful design considerations. Where AI or other intensive processing is proposed, its value should be considered alongside cost, energy use and simpler alternatives.

Responsible purchasing and partners

We aim to consider environmental impact when choosing products, equipment and services. This includes suitability, expected life, repairability, waste and the information suppliers make available about their own practices.

We prefer to work with partners who take environmental responsibility seriously. Claims should be specific and supported by evidence; a label or general statement should not be the only basis for a decision.

Travel and meetings

We aim to avoid journeys that can be replaced by an effective remote conversation. When travel is useful or necessary, we consider whether visits can be combined and whether a lower-emission transport option is practical.

The right approach depends on the purpose of the meeting, accessibility, the people involved and the quality of the work. Environmental considerations should inform that choice.

Improvement and transparency

Our aim is to improve practical decisions over time and to be clear about what is an ambition, what action has been taken and what can be evidenced. This page does not publish a verified emissions baseline or quantified progress against the 2030 target.
